  • Weimar Republic:
    • After WW1, a democratic government system known as the 'Weimar Republic' was set up. This party was in power before the Treaty of Versailles was signed, causing this party to take the blame for Germany's economic crisis, with high unemployment and inflation. The general population blamed the Weimar Republic for failing to restore Germany to its former glory.
  • Rise of the Nazi Party:
    • Hitler's leadership and policies - the Beer Hall Putsch, although unsuccessful, proved that Hitler was trying to bring change to Germany. He had great public speaking skills, beneficial to the Nazi Party. He opposed the Treaty and aimed to fix the economy, which the general public wanted. He was also anti-communist, just like the public, so their wealth wouldn't be redistributed.
    • Propaganda - Hitler made up short and memorable slogans that the public would understand. He made his slogans about the Treaty, unemployment and communism - everything the public was against.
  • On 30 January 1933, Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany by President Hindenburg. He began constructing his dictatorship.
