    • In the 1600s many people were transported from Africa to the Americas as part of the triangular TAST. In the 1800s European nations began to colonise Africa in order to exploit the abundant natural resources that can be found.

  • Development: A country which is economicaly stable and improved from previous generations
  • GDP: Gross Domestic Product, the total value of all final goods and services produced in a country in a given year. Per capita = per person
  • HDI: Human Development Index - Put together by UN to see how delevoped a country is. Uses a mix of three measures to calculate an overla score between 0 and 1. The three measures are : life expectancy , education and gross national income per capita.
    HDI puts countries in 4 different categories:
    • Very high human development
    • High human development
    • Medium development
    • Low human development
  • Subsistence farming: Farming that provides food for the farmer and their family.
  • Post-colonial : A term used to describe the period of time after the end of colonialism.
