this is Jesus' response to those who asked him if he was the Messiah
interpretations of use of the word "one" in John 10:30:
unity of essence: of one being with the Father, as described in the Nicene Creed
unity of purpose: Jesus' and God's missions were in harmony
there is some uncertainty regarding the correct interpretation of John 10:30
Jesus spoke Aramaic - could've been distorted through translation
John's Gospel was probably written 60+ years after the crucifixion
one of the reasons for John's Gospel was the need to combat heresy, so this may have slanted the text
"... yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist" - 1 Corinthians 8:6
this was Paul's response to the question raised by Christians about eating meat from animals that had been sacrificed in pagan temples
1 Corinthians 8:6 interpretations:
Paul was equating Jesus to God
"through" suggests Jesus was God's agent but not divine
