Waves

Cards (8)

  • A wave is a disturbance that transfer energy and information with out transfer of matter.
  • Types of waves:
    1. Transverse waves- It is a wave which vibrate or oscillates at 90 degrees to the direction the wave is transferring energy e.g light energy.
    2. Longitudinal waves- It is a wave which vibrates or oscillates in the same direction the wave is transferring energy e.g sound.
  • Amplitude is the maximum displacement of particles of a wave from their rest position.
  • Wave length is the distance between two successive crests or troughs of the wave.
  • Period is the time taken by a source to produce one wave.
  • Frequency is the number of waves passing a particular point per second.
  • The doppler effect is the apparent change in wavelength and frequency of a wave emitted by a moving source.
  • Electromagnetic waves is a continuous spectrum of waves which have the same prperties.
