A wave is a disturbance that transfer
energy
and
information
with out transfer of matter.
Types of waves:
Transverse waves- It is a wave which vibrate or oscillates at 90 degrees to the direction the wave is
transferring energy
e.g
light energy.
Longitudinal waves- It is a wave which vibrates or oscillates in the same direction the wave is
transferring energy
e.g
sound.
Amplitude
is the maximum displacement of particles of a wave from their
rest position.
Wave length
is the distance between two successive
crests
or troughs of the wave.
Period is the time taken by a source to produce
one
wave.
Frequency is the number of
waves
passing a particular point per
second.
The
doppler effect
is the apparent change in
wavelength
and frequency of a wave emitted by a moving source.
Electromagnetic waves
is a
continuous
spectrum of waves which have the same prperties.
