  • Baptists often refer to baptism as ordinance
  • Baptists reject the idea of infant baptism because:
    • there is no New testament evidence for it: only adults were baptised
    • Jesus himself was baptised as an adult
    • there is no such thing as original sin
    • God's grace is available to all, it is not limited or tied to baptism
    • baptism is a statement of public commitment to faith in God that is made after careful preparation: how can an infant consent to this?
