  • classification is the act of arranging organisms into groups based on their similarities and differences. this makes it easier for scientists to identify and study organisms
  • taxonomy
    the study of classification and places animals into a taxonomic hierarchy
  • in the heirachy, similar organisms are organised into 3 large groups
    called domains e.g. animals, plants, and fungi are in the eukarya domain
  • after domain similar organisms are sorted into kingdoms e.g. all animals are in animal kingdom (Animalia)
