  • Nail body / plate - visible portion of the nail which is attached to the nail bed

  • Mantle - where the nail root is embedded
  • Eponychium - the extension of the cuticle which partly covers the lunula
  • Hyponychium - the part of the skin found under the free edge
  • Perionychium - part of the cuticle surrounding the entire nail border
