  • In the lead up to this election, the Labour party went through some changes including the establishment of a by-election insurance fund to subsidise the election fees in poorer areas, a membership drive recruited 1000 new members and policy changes left them as anti-appeasement

    Chamberlain was eager to avoid war and consequently, the Czech Crisis was followed with a policy of appeasement, giving Germany Sudetenland to prevent conflict
  • The public supported the policy of appeasement however there was little holding Germany to the agreement, Churchill and the Labour party were critical of the policy
  • Chamberlain was criticised for his uninspiring handling of the war and was replaced by Churchill in 1939
