Current, pD, and Resistance

  • the current (I) through a component depends on both the resistance (R) of the component and the potential difference (V) across the component
  • The greater the resistance the smaller the current for a given potential difference across the componet
    • connect the circuit
    • connect the crocodile clips to the resistance wire 100cm apart
    • record the reading on the ammeter and the voltmeter
    • move the crocodile clips closer until they are 90cm apart
    • repeat prev steps reducing length of wire by 10cm every time down to a min of 10cm
    • sue results to calculate resistance if each length by using r = v/I
    • plot a graph of resistance against length fir resistance wire
