• determining density - regular solids:

  • use a ruler to measure the length, width, and height of a steel cube
  • measure the cube's mass using a balance
  • calculate the volume of the cube

• determining density - irregular object:

  • measure mass using a balance
  • fill displacement can until the water is level with the bottom of the pipe
  • place a measuring cylinder under the pipe ready to collect the displaced water
  • put stone in can and wait until no more water runs into the cylinder
  • measure volume of displaced water
