plant cells

Cards (6)

  • A double membrane organelle (used to make and store STARCH) = amyloplasts are not found in animal cells
  • plant cell vs animal
    p = cell wall, a= no cell wall
    p= chloroplast, a = no chloroplasts
    p= no centrioles, a= centrioles
    p = energy storage is starch, a= energy storage is glycogen
  • chloroplasts
    • site of photosynthesis - light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll and used to produce glucose from water and carbon dioxide
  • chloroplasts features
    • Granum - stack of thylakoids
    • thylakoids - contains chlorophyll pigments for photosynthesis
    • starch - energy storage molecule in plants
    • DNA and ribosomes - chloroplasts have their own DNA and 70s ribosomes to make enzymes needed for photosynthesis
  • Cell wall - made up of cellulose. Protects and supports cell
    • Channels called plasmodesmata allow transport and communication between individual plant cells
    • Vacuole contains cell sap which helps maintain turgor pressure. This ensures a rigid framework of the cell.
