AO1 - ERPs

• Electrodes are placed on the scalp
• ERPs show particular changes in brain activity after a change in stimulus
• A stimulus is presented to an individual many times and specific electrical responses are measured
• All extraneous brain activity from the original ERP recording is filtered out leaving only those responses that link to the presentation of the stimulus
• What remains once extraneous activity is filtered are the ERPs - types of brainwave that are triggered by particular events
