Particles

Cards (9)

    • Atoms
    • Cannot be created, divided or destroyed
    • Atoms of the same element are exactly the same and atoms of different elements are different
    • Atoms join with other atoms to make new substances
  • Solids - particles close together : don't change volume : don't change shape : not easily compressed
  • Liquids - Particles are close together but move around : can change shape : don't change volume : not easily compressed
  • Gases - Particles are Far apart : can change shape : can change volume : easily compressed
  • Particle theory : All matter is made up of particles called atoms
  • Brownian motion is the random movement displayed by small particles that are suspended in fluids.
  • When dealing with small particles we use nanometers as the unit of measurement (using nm) : 1 nm = 0.000 000 001 meters (m)
  • Diffusion is when 2 or more substances mix particles
  • Diffusion is easier in gas than liquid due to the space between the particles
