Cards (3)

  • Apparatus + chemicals used: conical flask, tubing, stopper, graduated cylinder, glass trough, dilute HCl, magnesium, hotplate, water
    1. Add magnesium ribbon to dilute HCl and put the stopper on the flask. Start the stopwatch. Hydrogen gas is generated.
    2. Every 30 seconds, record the amount of hydrogen produced until the reaction stops.
    3. Repeat the experiment with different temperatures of HCl by heating it with a hotplate.
  • Chemical formula:
    • Mg + 2HCl -> MgCl2 + H2
  • Word formula:
    • Magnesium + hydrochloric acid -> magnesium chloride + hydrogen
