Cards (4)

  • Chemical formula:
    • H2O2 --- MnO2 ---> H20 + 1/2 O2
  • Word formula:
    • Hydrogen peroxide --- manganese dioxide ---> water + oxygen
  • Chemicals + apparatus used: tubing, conical flask, stopper, glass trough, graduated cylinder, manganese dioxide, hydrogen peroxide, water, stopwatch
    1. Place hydrogen peroxide into a conical flask. Pour in some manganese dioxide in the flask and place the stopper immediately. Start the stopwatch.
    2. Every 30 seconds, take down the amount of oxygen produced until the reaction stops.
  • The oxygen produced can be tested by checking if it reignites a burnt match (rekindling a glowing splint).
