Chemical formula:
H2O2
---
MnO2
---> H20 + 1/2 O2
Word formula:
Hydrogen peroxide
---
manganese dioxide
---> water + oxygen
Chemicals + apparatus used: tubing,
conical flask
, stopper, glass trough, graduated cylinder,
manganese dioxide
, hydrogen peroxide, water, stopwatch
Place hydrogen peroxide into a conical flask. Pour in some
manganese dioxide
in the
flask
and place the stopper immediately. Start the stopwatch.
Every
30 seconds
, take down the amount of
oxygen
produced until the reaction stops.
The
oxygen
produced can be tested by checking if it
reignites
a
burnt
match (
rekindling
a glowing
splint
).
