Coastal Transportation

• How material (sand,shingle etc) is transported along the beach.
• 1. The swash carries material up the beach at an angle
• 2.The Angle depends on the direction of the prevailing (common)wind
• 3.The backwash returns to the sea at a righ tangle to the coast (because of gravity)
• 4.This zigzag movement of the swash & backwash is called longshore drift
