To investigate a solid material you’ll need a
block
of the material with two holes in for the
heater
and thermometer
2) Measure the mass of the block and then wrap it in an
insulating
layer to
reduce
the energy transferred from the block to the surroundings
3) Measure the initial temperature of the block and then the
power
on and
start
the stopwatch
4) As the block heats up take readings of the
temperature
and current every minute for
10
minutes
5) Once you have
10
readings turn off power supply and use the potential and current to calculate the
power.
6) Calculate the specific heat capacity using the formula
