Required Practical - Specific Heat capacity

Cards (6)

    1. To investigate a solid material you’ll need a block of the material with two holes in for the heater and thermometer
  • 2) Measure the mass of the block and then wrap it in an insulating layer to reduce the energy transferred from the block to the surroundings
  • 3) Measure the initial temperature of the block and then the power on and start the stopwatch
  • 4) As the block heats up take readings of the temperature and current every minute for 10 minutes
  • 5) Once you have 10 readings turn off power supply and use the potential and current to calculate the power.
  • 6) Calculate the specific heat capacity using the formula Q = mcΔT
