  • Title
    -the main heading written in capital shown at the top of the table
    -It must expalins the contents of the table and throw light on the table as a whole
    -Different parts of the heading can be seperated by commas
  • column caption (box head)

    the vertical heading and subheading of the column
  • stub (row captions)
    horizontal headings and subheadings of the row are called row heading
    the spaces where these rows headings are written is called stub
  • body
    main part of the table which contains the numerical info classified with respect to row and column captions
  • Prefatory notes
    a statement below the title and is enclosed in brackets which usually describes the units of measurements
  • footnotes
    appear immediately below the body of the table providing additional explanation
  • Sourcenotes
    given at the end of the table indicating the source where the info comes from. It includes the info about compiling agency, publication, etc
  • General Rules of Tabulation
    1. There should be proper and clear headings for colums and rows
    2. Suitable approximation may be adopted and figures may be rounded
    3. The unit of measurement should be weel-define
    4. If the observations are large in number, they can be broken into two or three tables.
    5. Thick lines should be used to separate the data under big classes and thin lines to separates the subclasses of data
