Motion

Cards (6)

  • Motion
    • Movement that occurs when an object has changed positions In space and time due to the outside forces
  • Linear motion
    • Where movement along a straight line or curved line and there is no rotation, all body parts move in the same direction and speed
    • Eg. Ice skater as they glide along the ice after completing a movement
  • Curvilinear
    • Linear motion but the object move in a curved trajectory
    • E.g. A basketball being shot from the free throw line
  • Rectilinear
    • Movement is linear and occurs through a straight line
    • Often represented as a whole of a certain point of the body
    • E. g. Flat basketball chest pass as the balls path is flat
  • Angular motion
    • Where all the body parts of the body move through a rotational pathway, through the same angle, in the same direction at the same time
    • The rotary movement around an axis
    • Eg. When a gymnast performs a giant circle on a bar, the entire body rotates
  • General motion
    • Combination of linear and angular motion
    • Human movement usually consists of general motion rather than linear or angular motion
    • Eg. A cyclist may move in a straight line as a result of the rotation of the legs about the hip joint
