  • Church Missionary Society:
    • engaged in mission around the world, setting up churches as well as offering health + social care in the 19th century
    • has become less concerned with converting foreigners + more with supporting the work of local churches by helping them to run outreach projects
    • 1980s: CMS missionaries worked alongside the clergy of Cairo Anglican cathedral to run child-care projects
  • The Evangelical Alliance Mission:
    • missionaries who are qualified specialists work in teams to set up + staff churches, hospitals + schools in countries where Christianity is not the local religion
    • openly share their evangelical beliefs + encourage locals to attend their Church services to learn about Christianity
  • Alpha Course:
    • originally aimed at members of the church
    • as it developed, people were encouraged to invite friends to the church
  • development of evangelism:
    • originally aimed at converting people in other countries to Christianity
    • now equally as prominent in Britain
