Synthetic polymers

• An addition polymer is formed by joining lots of small particles called monomers
• We can deduce the structure of a monomer from the polymer by counting the carbons and hydrogen atoms and adding the double bind as appropriate
• The problems of disposing polymers are they are not biodegradable, they produce toxic gases when burned
