    This definition views abnormality in terms of the breaking of society's standards and norms. 
    Every society will have different social norms across the world.  
    Abnormal behaviour can be seen as behaviour that deviates from or violates society's implicit or explicit rules and moral standards.

    • Protects society – by distinguishing what is normal and abnormal leading to help to be given to those who need it. 
  • Weaknesses of deviation from social norms
    • Subjective opinion – social norms are based on the opinion of people in society. 
    • Cannot establish global norms.
