Closed Circulatory System
Occurs in vertebrae and earthworms.
Blood is pumped from the heart into
blood vessels
which reach all blood tissue.
Blood vessels branch into
capillaries
which occur between cells for the exchange of
gases
and
nutrients.
Blood flows back to the heart with
valves
ensuring blood flows in
one direction.
Human Circulatory System
Humans have a
closed
system, where blood is limited to
blood
vessels.
Humans have a
double
circulatory system(
pulmonary
&
systemic
)
Pulmonary Circulatory system
Blood flows from heart, to
lungs
and back to the heart
Deoxygenated
blood leaves the right ventricle from the
pulmonary artery
and flows to the heart.
Oxygenated
blood leaves the lungs via the
pulmonary
vein
, to the left atrium.
Systemic Circulatory System
Blood flows from the
heart
to the rest of the
body
and back.
Oxygenated
blood leaves the left ventricle, via the
aorta
and branches into smaller arteries ->
arterioles
-> capillaries between cells.
Capillaries join to form
venules
and then
veins.
Deoxygenated
blood flows through the
superior
/
inferior
vena
cava
to the right atrium.
