    • Cognitive - updating knowledge or providing a person with new info can change the cognitive component
    • Affective - give a person new and positive experiences can modify the affective component
    • Behavioural - success and reinforcement, if a skill is simplified it can make the execution easier
  • Cognitive Dissonance
    • A state of mental conflict
    • If a person holds 2 ideas that oppose and conflict each other an element of discomfort arises
    • Emotional conflict is called 'dissonance'
    • To reduce the feeling of dissonance one of the conflicting ideas needs to be reduced, therefore changing attitude
  • Persuasive communication
    • Used to foster positive attitudes
    • Persuader needs to be knowledgeable, trustworthy and understand the recipient
    • Message clear, unambiguous and balanced
    • Recipient open to change, accepting and understands
    • Situation safe and non-threatening
