Solutions and Solubility

Cards (9)

  • Solubility: The amount of solute that can be dissolved in given quantity of solvent
  • Concentration: The amount of solute per unit volume of solution
  • Dilution: The process of decreasing a solutions concentration by increasing volume (solvent)
  • Saturated solution: Maximum amount of solute in dissolved in solvent
  • Unsaturated solution: Less than the max amount of solute is dissolved in the solvent (More solute can be dissolved)
  • Supersaturated solution: More than the max amount of solute in dissolved in the solvent
  • Concentration and volume are inversely related (One decreases, other increases vice versa)
  • Concentrated solution: Contains a relatively high amount of solute per unit volume solvent
  • Diluted solution: Contains a low amount of solute per unit volume solvent (more faint in color)
