  • He was born in 1732 in the colony of Virginia. He hoped to secure independence for the American colonies from British rule. Washington played a role in the first continental Congress as a representative. The second continental congress was when the continental army was established in 1776. George Washington’s role in the American/continental army was a commander in chief.
  • He lost his first battle at bunker hill. The declaration of independence happen on the 4th of July 1776, to separate the American colonies from the British rule. Washington was defeated at the Battle of New York in 1776, after that game two victories at Princeton and Trenton.
  • The turning point for Washington was Saratoga and the Battle of Yorktown. At Saratoga the American General Gates defeated a British Army of 8000 men. The Battle of Yorktown was when 7000 British soldiers under lord Cornwallis were surrounded by land thousand Americans and 5000 French troops on land and a French fleet army at sea. Cornwallis then surrendered to Washington and America won
