  • Provided UK with duty free access to worlds second biggest economy. Tariffs reduce trade and UK exporters benefited from being able to sell abroad cheaper. In 2016 43% of trade was with the EU and worth £241 billion
  • Under Blair the social chapter gave workers rights such as guaranteed 48 hour weeks and 4 weeks paid holiday

  • UK contributed more to EU than it gets back. 2017: the UK made a contribution of £8.9 million to the EU
  • The EU has been accused of having a democratic deficit as its only elected body has less influence than other bodies
