  • Precision
Also called reproducibility or repeatability. The degree to which an instrument will give the same reading one the conditions under which the reading is taken remains the same.
  • Precision
    • The spread of readings is very small, if repeated readings are taken of the same value. There will be little or no difference in the readings.
    • The system/instrument is said to be very precise if there is a wide range of values, where the readings are very different, the system/instrument is said to be low precision.
  • Precision is NOT to be confused with Accuracy (which is a totally different thing).
  • Accuracy
How close the measurement or reading is to the actual or true value.
  • Accurate
If the reading taken is very close to the true value.
  • Inaccurate
If the reading taken is very different or far removed from the true value.
  • Precision
How small the uncertainty the instrument will give.
  • Energy can be transferred from one object to another by work done or heat transfer.
  • Precision
If there is a wide range of values, where the readings are very different, the system/instrument is said to be low precision
