Also called reproducibility or repeatability. The degree to which an instrument will give the same reading one the conditions under which the reading is taken remains the same.
Precision
The spread of readings is very small, if repeated readings are taken of the same value. There will be little or no difference in the readings.
The system/instrument is said to be very precise if there is a wide range of values, where the readings are very different, the system/instrument is said to be low precision.
Precision is NOT to be confused with Accuracy (which is a totally different thing).
Accuracy
How close the measurement or reading is to the actual or true value.
Accurate
If the reading taken is very close to the true value.
Inaccurate
If the reading taken is very different or far removed from the true value.
Precision
How small the uncertainty the instrument will give.
Energy can be transferred from one object to another by work done or heat transfer.
Precision
If there is a wide range of values, where the readings are very different, the system/instrument is said to be low precision
