  • 1 - Perception and planning
    Have a record of what is already known based on evidence gathered so far about the interviewer and the crime and consider potential problems such as whether the witness is vulnerable
  • 2 - Engage and explain
    Establish a rapport with the witness and explain the purpose of the interview
  • 3 - Account, clarification, challenge
    Allow witness to give their own account and ask further questions. If answers conflict with known info you should challenge
  • 4 - Closure
    Ensure rapports is still there, close interview by giving the witness a way to contact them if they remember more
  • 5 - Evaluation
    Receive all information gathered from the interview what was learned and check for any inconsistencies
