The Brain lobes

Cards (10)

  • How many lobes does the brain have?
    4 lobes in each hemispheres.

    Frontal lobe
    Parietal lobe
    Temporal lobe
    Occipital lobe
  • Frontal Lobe

    Largest lobe

Wrapped by the Cerebral cortex = 3mm thick and convolated (folds)

    Functions:
    body movement
    language
    planning

Consists of Broca's area = speech production
    Amygalda = Emotions
Prefrontal cortex = Interpret meaning of language
  • Parietal lobe
Occupies the primary somatosensory cortex = touch, pressure, temperature, and pain

Contraleteral organisation = each side is processedl by the opposite hemisphere
  • Temporal lobe

    Procces the auditory information
    e.g. music and speech

Primary auditory cortex = located upper part of temperal lobe
  • Occipatal lobe
Located on the rear end of the brain

Proccess info from both sided of retina
left side = left occipital lobe
Right Side = Right occipital lobe

Contains primary visual cortex = procces of reciveing info from eyes

Association area = communication between motor and sensory areas + higher order mental proccessing
  • Broca's area
The association area of the frontal lobe

    Coodinates speech movement
  • Amygalda
    Located in the frontal lobe

    Within the limbic system

    Responsible for emotioal responses
  • Prefrontal cortex
Located in the frontal lobe, behind the forehead

Responsible for planning, emotion regulation and cognitive function (memory + focus)
  • Left Hemisphere
    Controls Right
    Language and Speech
  • Right Hemisphere
    Controls Left
    Controls attention + memory
