  • Depolarisation is the sudden increase in membrane potential.
  • Depolarisation occurs if the level of stimulation exceeds about 15 mV.
  • Sodium channels allow more sodium ions to enter the cell making the intracellular fluid less negative, increasing the potential difference.
  • The all-or-none response is where the size of the response stays at a constant regardless of the strength of the stimulus.
