Patterns of Reactivity

• sodium + chlorine -> sodium chloride
• copper + oxygen -> copper oxide
• when you have a compound which contains three or more elements and one is oxygen then the ending of the compound becomes -ate but carbon does not change it's ending!
• if a metal is reactive enough, it will react with water to form hydrogen gas and a new compound (which is known as salt)
• raising the temperature of a chemical reaction results in a higher reaction rate. when the reactant particles are heated, they move faster and faster, resulting in greater frequency of collisions
