bacteria

Cards (3)

  • bacteria
    • small celled prokaryotes
    • no membrane bound organelles
    • smaller ribosomes
    • no nucleus, single circular chromosomes free in cytoplasm not associated with proteins
    • cell wall-peptidoglycan
    • plasmids, flagella,capsules,pilli
  • tuberculosis(TB)

    cause: mycobacterium tuberculosis
-infectious disease caused by bacteria and are transmissible
  • transmission of TB
    1. infected person with TB coughs or sneezes, mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria enters air in tiny liquid droplets
    2. one inside individuals lungs, TB engulfed by phagocytes- bacteria may still be able to S+R inside phagocytes
    3. overtime, infected phagocytes become encased in tubercles in lungs, bacteria is dormant
    4. possible for bacteria to be activated or overpower immune system when it is comprimised= develop TB(active phase)
    5. if not treated- extensive damage to lungs/respiratory failure
