The Hawthorne studies

• Aim


  To research into whether levels of productivity in an electric company called Hawthorne changes based on lighting
• Procedure


  There were two different groups:

  • Experiment group - small group of women who had varying lights
  • The control group - workers who had constant lighting
• Results

  • All productivity in all conditions were only increased
  • This is because they were being watched - something now called the Hawthorne effect
