The Circulatory System - this is the transport system by which blood is carried to all parts of the body. All other body systems depend on its functioning efficiently
The Functions of the Circulatory System
-Circulates blood through the body
-transport water, oxygen and food to cells and removes wastes from the cells
-helps other body systems to function e.g. blood supply to the muscles is increased during exercise
-helps fight disease
_helps maintain correct body temperature
The Structure and Workings of the Circulatory System
The circulatory system has three parts:
_The heart - the organ which pumps blood around the body.
_The blood vessels - the tubes (arteries, capillaries and veins.) through which the blood moves.
_The blood itself. The average adult has about five litres of blood.
