• Define force

  A force is a push or pull upon an object resulting from the object’s interaction with another object
• What is the SI unit of force?

  Newton (N)
• What are the 4 effects of force on state of motion of an object?

  Move a stationary object, change of speed, change of direction, to stop a moving object
• Define turning effect

  Turning effect of a force, or defined as the ability to make something turn
• What are the 2 factors affecting turning effect?

  Force applied, distance of application of force to pivot
• Forces can change the shape and size of an object
• Larger turning effect can be produced by applying force at a further distance from the pivot, and by applying a larger force
• Define pressure

  Pressure is defined as the force acting per unit area
• What is the formula for pressure?

  Pressure = Force/Area
• What is the SI unit of pressure?

  Pascal (Pa), Newton per square metre (N/m2)
• How does a sharp knife cut more easily than a blunt one?

  A sharp knife makes use of a small contact surface to allow for easier cutting
• Smaller area: greater pressure, larger area: lesser pressure
• Remember to convert kPa to Pa
