• Tienari et al found those more likely to develop schizo had a biological parent with schizo (nature) and were raised in a family rated as being dysfunctional (nurture)
• evidence for epigenetics: mice were given electric shocks every time they were exposed to a particular chemical smell, found after they showed a fear reaction they were presented with it, but children and gchildren also showed fear without exposure to shocks demonstrating how nurture can influence nature
