Tissues and Organs in Plants

Cards (7)

  • Plant tissues:
    • Epidermal
    • Palisade
    • Spongy
    • Xylem
    • Phloem
  • Epidermal Tissue: Covers the surface of the leaf and often waxy for it to be waterproof
  • Palisade Mesophyll= The surface layer of the leaf containing a lot of chloroplast for photosynthesis
  • Spongy mesophyll = Has lots of air spaces and chloroplast for photosynthesis and so that gases can diffuse easily into/out of the cells.
  • Xylem tissue = Transports water from roots up through stem to leaves, also transports minerals from soil to plant
  • Phloem tissue = Transports sugars made by plants during photosynthesis around the plant
  • Main type of plant organs:
    • Roots
    • Leaves
    • Stems
