  • Types of ASD:
    1. Atypical - seen in children with significant intellectual disabilities + may not display specific deficits required for childhood autism
    2. Asperger's syndrome - newer type of ASD - don't have a delay in language or cognitive developments. They have a general intelligence - "high functioning"
  • Severity of ASD
    1. Level 1 = 'requiring support' due to impaired social functioning
    2. Level 2 = requires 'substantial support' to manage impairments, even with support, functioning still likely to be affected
    3. Level 3 = requires 'very substantial support' - even with assistance will experience severe impairments of functioning
