Information processing is where you make decisions based on gathering information (stimuli) from your senses, such as what you see and hear.
You prioritise the most important stimuli to make a suitabledecision
Input
The information received from the display (your senses) via selective attention
Decision making -
The selection of an appropriate response using the information 'input' and that stored in long term memory
Output-
Information you send to your muscles to carry out the response
Feedback-
A review of your response; this can be from yourself (intrinsic) and/or others (extrinsic)
Information processing in sport -
Input: See player throw tennis ball high to serve
Decision making: Based on what you see and past experience, decide whether to move
Output: Move to be ready to return the ball
Feedback: Was too far forward and return was unsuccessful
Selective attention
Focusing on the important information (stimuli). When completing skills there can be a lot of information (stimuli) around you. You have very little time to select relevant information (such as speed of a ball) and ignore theirrelevant (noise nearby)
