    • In 2023 there was over 80000 men in prisons and only just over 3000 women in prisons in England and Wales

      Boys are taught to be risk-takers and tough whereas girls are supervised more closely and expected to conform more than boys.
    • Differences in socialisation stick with us and lead to more men committing crimes because they feel inclined and have more chances to break the rules

      Boys rebel against their mothers teaching,especially if they are seen as feminine
    • Boys seek opportunities to develop masculinity,often in all male peer groups.These groups praise aggressive behaviour which can lead to criminal acts
    • Patriarchal societies are those where men dominate,they impose greater control over women.This reduces womens opportunities to commit crime

      women are controlled at home,work and in public.
    • In the home daughters are dependant on care from parents.They are not able to stay out as late as sons and are required to do more housework.
      As a result girls learn to develop socialising opportunities which involve the home(sleepovers)
