  • Submitted a paper on smallpox and inoculation to the Royal Society, but was told he needed more proof. He then went on to experiment on many people, including his own son
  • Inoculation involved blowing a small amount of smallpox into the patients nose, and letting them catch and fight the disease, coming out immune
  • The problems with inoculation were that if the dose was wrong the patient could die, an inoculated person could still pass on the disease, and only the very rich could afford it
