• Polygenic traits: refers to a trait that is controlled by multiple genes. This is found to be dominant with complex human attributes such as intelligence and personality traits
• 3 ways the genes influence the environment: passive, evocative and active genotype/environment correlations. Out of these, active plays a role in later childhood and development, evocative throughout all of life and passive in early life
• Physical development follows a cephalocaudal and proximodistal direction.
• Skeletal age is an excellent measure of physical maturation
