• Differentiation theory: perception requires detection of the distinctive features of sensory input
• Enrichment theory: perception requires cognitive embellishment of of sensations
• Interactionist perspective: both nativist and empiricist positions are correct and co-exist
• Intermodal perception: Recognize things using another sense than how it was perceived using a different sense in the first place
