Controlling Body Temperature

Cards (5)

  • the hypothalmus is the part of brain monitoring and controls body temperature
  • temperature receptors are found on the surface of the skin and hypothalmus
  • the optimum temperature is 37C
  • if the temperature is too high
    • temperature receptors detect body temperature is high
    • thermoregulatory centre receives information triggering effectors
    • effectors respond by sweating , hairs lie flat and blood vessels dilate (vasodilation)
  • if the temperature is too low
    • temperatures receptors detect body temperature is too low
    • thermoregulatory centre receives information triggering effectors
    • effectors respond by shivering , hairs stand up , blood vessels constrict (vasoconstriction)
