Violent crimes may be the result of inability to control your anger. Therefore anger management might help reduce this
1 - cognitive preparation
The offender learns which situations trigger angry outbursts and to watch out for internal cues (such as increased heart rate, irrational thoughts etc)
2 - Skill acquisition
In this stage the offender learns relaxation techniques to regulate breathing and heart rate (e.g. slowly counting to 10) or to remove themselves from the situation
It can also sometimes involve social skills training in negotiation and assertiveness to deal with difficult situations in more positive ways
