Anger management programmes

Cards (4)

  • Anger management programmes
    • Violent crimes may be the result of inability to control your anger. Therefore anger management might help reduce this
  • 1 - cognitive preparation
The offender learns which situations trigger angry outbursts and to watch out for internal cues (such as increased heart rate, irrational thoughts etc)
  • 2 - Skill acquisition
    • In this stage the offender learns relaxation techniques to regulate breathing and heart rate (e.g. slowly counting to 10) or to remove themselves from the situation
    • It can also sometimes involve social skills training in negotiation and assertiveness to deal with difficult situations in more positive ways
  • 3 - Application practice
Often involves role play during therapy sessions
