• there is a very large biodiversity in the tropical rainforest due to the weather conditions, the heat and the large amounts of precipitation
• only one seed in every million make it to the shrub layer so the chances of 2 of the same tree surviving and thriving is very low
• more than 2/3rds of the worlds plant species are found in the forests and half of the worlds known animal species
