Challenges

• only 55% of the city had a local family health clinic in 2013
• only 50% of children continued education past 14 years
• 37% of water is lost due to leaky pipes and illegal access
• lack of energy due to illegal tapping
• cars and growth of factories caused 5000 deaths per year
• in the past 10 years the No of cars increased by 40% = expanding metro and creating toll roads that pay to use= less cars on roads
• 200 tonnes of raw sewage and 50 tones of industrial waste poured into the guanabara bay = 12 new sewage works and 5km of sewage pipes
• lack of waste disposal = rubbish on the street

  +new biogas power plant consumes 30 tonnes of rubbish each day
