• diffusion is the movement of particles from a high to low concentration
• diffusion happens in gases and liquids
• diffusion can also happen through materials such as cell membranes
• cell membranes are semi permable
• semi permable membranes only allow small enough molecules through its pores
• diffusion is a passive process, it doesn’t require energy
• factors that affect the rate of diffusion

  • concentration gradient - the higher the concentration gradient the higher the rate of diffusion
  • temperature- the higher the temperature the higher the rate of diffusion as they have more kinetic energy to move around faster
  • surface area- the larger the surface area of he higher the rate of diffusion
• osmosis is a form of diffusion
