The cells of the muscular tissue are long and thin, called fibres
They respond to stimulus by contracting and becoming shorter
Three types of muscular tissue:
Skeletal muscle
Involuntary muscle
Cardiac muscle
Skeletal muscles are muscles attached to the bones which can be controlled voluntarily so we can move the parts of our body we need to
Skeletal muscle fibres have stripes (striations)
Involuntary muscles (or smooth muscle) are made up of cells we cannot contract voluntarily such as the walls of the stomach, blood vessels and intestines
Muscular Tissues
Cardiac muscle is mostly what the heart is comprised of
The heart contracts and pumps blood around the body and is not voluntarily controlled
